It was a good Sunday at the U11-U14s English National Championships for all Waterside TTC players. The tournament, held in Walsall, saw Katie Holt, Amy Blagbrough and Artur Caltabiano going head-to-head against other talented players from all over England.
The impressive performance of Amy during the girls U12 category finished with a well deserved podium in 3rd place. Amy knocked out the seed number 2, Kate Cheer, on her way to the semis, only loosing to the eventual runner up of the competition, Bhavika Mistry. Amy more than deserved this final position and hopefully next year she can reach the final.
For Katie and Artur, this was their first national tournament but they didn’t get intimidated by the other players with higher rankings. Katie, playing in the girls U11 category, won her group quite comfortably. In the first knock-out round, she had a heart breaking match, loosing in very close five games. This experience will certainly help Katie in her development as a player.
Artur had a tough competition, playing against the seed number 2 in the group stage. Artur went through as a runner-up from the group, and after an easy win in the first knock-out round, he was set to encounter the top seed, Alex Ramsden, in the last 16. With nothing to loose, he almost caused a major upset in the tournament but in the end, the experience of Alex prevailed. And Alex’s quality is easy to see as he finished on the top spot.
Well done to all of them… certainly we will hear more about their successes.
