Hedge End A vs Four Ts A
Hedge End produced a competent performance to beat Four T’S A 10-0. John Taylor played a blinder for Hedge End punishing the loose ball constantly to win a hat trick in straight games. Dave woodacre also won three rubbers with his forehand smash too much for his opponents to handle. Robin Plunkett also won a treble, but was troubled by John Butcher and Diarry Khdir. Butcher took the second leg from 8-2 down, eventually narrowly losing in 4 sets. Khdir later took him to 5 sets, but Plunkett again got the rub of the green, having won 8 from 9 five setters this season.

Waterside K vs Four Ts B
The whole evening was played in a very friendly atmosphere and everyone won at least one match. With the first match of the season against 4T’s B going 8-2 to 4 T’s, it was expected that they would win this match. However, it was Jon Stubbs who took the man of the match accolade winning all 3; even though 2 of the matches were won in the 5th game 11-9. This tipped the balance towards Waterside for the 6-4 win.

Waterside J vs Hedge End B
The scores in this evenly contested match oscillated throughout and both sides should be content with a draw. Congratulations to Ian on his well-deserved “Player of the Match” award. His patient and increasingly aggressive play is paying dividends. Martin’s consistent play received its good reward. This was a hard-fought, good spirited and enjoyable match.

Waterside N vs Soton West M
As expected this table top clash was very closely fought, with eight of the ten games needing at least 4 sets. The match was effectively won by the two Alberts, who both recorded maximums. Possibly the best game of the night was the doubles in which the service pattern strongly influenced who was on top at any stage. Waterside would like to acknowledge their thanks to Southampton West for agreeing to a posponement of the match scheduled for 16 February, when the former were very much under the weather with chest infections.

St. Deny’s B vs Waterside N
A case of dejavu as the two Alberts carried Waterside N to another 7-3 win in two days by recording singles maximums and pairing to win the doubles. At times Albert Garcia was hitting the ball so hard that there were fears for the safety of his opponent and spectators. Charles Whiteway featured in two hard fought 5 setters. Bob Davies showed that David Eaton needs to shake off his chest infection and get back to winning ways.
